Rocket League was released nearly 8 years ago, and in that time, there have been released some items that are incredibly rare and nearly impossible to obtain.

For the lucky few people who played the Alpha, Alpha items were given to them as a reward for helping play-test the game and spread awareness. Rocket League exploded in popularity shortly after, making the demand for these limited Alpha items skyrocket.

There are three different Alpha items, and as of writing this article, the price of these items (according to RL Insider) look like this:

No one truly knows how many Alpha items are in circulation today, except Psyonix, but they haven’t released the numbers. We estimate it’s only a couple of hundreds. Some Alpha items belong to inactive accounts, which will never see the light of day, while most of them belong to Pro Rocket League players and high-profile traders.

What many people don’t realize is that some Alpha items are rarer than others. The Alpha items were given out to Alpha players depending on how many Alpha invitations they sent out to friends. They were given in this order:

Gold Cap (Alpha Reward)

Gold Rush (Alpha Reward)

Goldstone (Alpha Reward)

So, technically Goldstones are rarer than Gold Rush, even though Gold Rush is undoubtedly worth a lot more today — but that’s due to higher demand. Originally, Alpha items were only available on PC, since that’s where the Alpha took place. After Psyonix made Rocket League free-to-play in September 2020, and then opened up the game to cross-platform trading, Alpha items were suddenly available to the entire console community. This made the demand explode, and with it went the price. The value of Gold Rush doubled in a matter of days, and has only increased or remained stable ever since.

Gold Rush, also commonly called Alpha Boost, has become the go-to boost for the professional players. That’s why you see so many of them during RLCS — no doubt due to status, but also because it’s a pleasure to play with (editor’s note: as a previous Alpha boost owner, I can attest to this. It’s hard to explain, and perhaps it’s just placebo, but you play better with the Alpha boost equipped, even though it makes no difference to the physics of the game).

If you thought Gold Rush was the end of the story, you are wrong. There’s another item that takes the throne for being the most valuable item in Rocket League. It’s none of the Alpha items, nor the Burnt Sienna Hard Hat. In fact, it’s so rare that only a handful of players are known to own it, with roughly 30 in existence.

The most expensive item in Rocket League is the White Hat. It’s hard to put a price on it, since so few of them exist, but they’re worth well over 1 million Credits, beating Gold Rush in terms of worth.

White Hat

The White Hat was given to ethical hackers (known as “white hats”) by Psyonix for reporting significant exploits in Rocket League. Users Null, Cobra, Drogings, Jeunez, and possibly others, have all received White Hats as a token of appreciation for their findings. We’ve had the pleasure of working with some of them on projects for RL Garage.

When Epic acquired Psyonix and made Rocket League free-to-play, they retired the White Hat and replaced it with a bounty program called HackerOne, which hands out monetary rewards to white hat hackers for reporting exploits. The White Hats that were rewarded remain in the game — however, this means there will never be more White Hats in the game than there are right now.

The White Hat is the only tradable item that is able to “one-up” the Alpha boost, which makes it a very prestigious item to own and the most valuable item in Rocket League.
